Frequently asked Questions

What cover does ComputerCover provide?
ComputerCover provides 'All Risks' worldwide cover against theft and accidental damage.

What is not covered by ComputerCover?
Maintenance costs, electrical or mechanical breakdown, wear and tear, fraud and dishonesty, consequential loss and loss or damage caused by sonic bangs are not covered. Some of these may be covered under any warranty/extended warranty you may have and should be taken up with the relevant body.

Is my claim valid if my laptop gets stolen from my unattended car?
Yes, the claim is valid if the laptop is stolen from the locked boot of a saloon car, or when concealed under the rear parcel shelf of a locked hatchback or in the spare wheel or other closed compartment of a locked estate car. If the laptop is stolen from anywhere else in the car e.g. the back seat, then your claim is not valid. Evidence of a break-in will be requested.
If your laptop is stolen whilst you are in your vehicle it will be covered.

I am a student; does ComputerCover cover my laptop/PC when I take it away from my home address to my student accommodation?
Yes, unlike some home contents insurance your laptop/PC will be covered in your student accommodation and whilst travelling, as long as you have provided a permanent address in the UK (i.e. your/your parents' home address).

Will ComputerCover pay out cash in the event of a claim?
No, ComputerCover will never pay out cash; this is not how the claims procedure works. In the event of theft ComputerCover will replace equipment to the same or similar specification up to the insured value. In the case of accidental damage ComputerCover will ensure that your claim results in priority authorisation to repair the equipment. Claims may only be dealt with by our appointed suppliers and repairers. We will arrange for the machine to be collected. Under no circumstances should you arrange your own repair or resupply.

What happens if my equipment needs to be replaced because of theft/damage, but the same model is no longer available?
ComputerCover will replace your old equipment with a model currently on the market closest in specifications to your old one. You will never receive a worse model and we will not source used equipment.

Is my PC/laptop covered if I am abroad?

Yes, as long as you have provided ComputerCover with a permanent UK address, your equipment is covered when you travel abroad. The only thing that ComputerCover will not cover is the cost of couriers for collecting your old equipment for repair or assessment or sending new equipment out to you.

My machine is custom built; can I insure it with ComputerCover?
Yes, provided you give us a full list of the specification of the machine and we are able to replace it in the event of a claim.

I bought my machine abroad; can I insure it with ComputerCover?
No. ComputerCover must be able to replace or repair the item. Our authorised bodies are based in the UK. We cannot replace from abroad.

Who is insured under ComputerCover?
In the case of an individual, immediate family members are insured. In the case of an educational establishment all students, teachers and staff members are insured. In the instance of business all staff members are insured for use. In addition the immediate family of the individual named on the policy (i.e. school pupil, member of company) are insured. Anyone other than these parties is not insured to use the equipment.

I am going on holiday for one month; can I cover my machine for that period?
No, ComputerCover insurance is for a minimum of one year.

Can you replace the data that was on my machine?
